When Cleveland Browns drafted Jabrill Peppers out of Michigan he was both an offensive and defensive threat for the Wolverines.
There were questions around his fit in the NFL but that didn’t stop the Browns from drafting him. How Cleveland used Peppers early in his career was questionable, to say the least.
My bro just sent me this and I need someone to help me understand.. how can you watch my college film & draft me, just to keep me 30 yards away from the line of scrimmage all game lol shit was really crazy https://t.co/vuX5P6k5fW

As you can see above, Peppers is at least 30 yards off the ball and the only chance has to make a play is if a deep pass is thrown. That is how Peppers was trotted out there week after week.
Coming out of college, Peppers was almost like a linebacker at times and was best around the line of scrimmage. Still, former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams had Peppers returned deep enough for a punt a lot of the times.
The reasoning was so that the Browns wouldn’t be beat deep. The issue with that is that teams can beat you a little at a time and Peppers being so deep gives a lot of room in front of him that the offense can look to use.
Peppers was a first-round pick of the Browns in 2017 and spent two seasons with the team before he was traded as part of the Odell Beckham Jr. trade and went to the New York Giants. After being there for three seasons, Peppers has been with the New England Patriots for the last two.
If Cleveland had used Peppers to his strong suits from the start, maybe they wouldn’t have felt inclined to include him in the trade package for Beckham Jr.
Perhaps Peppers getting out of Cleveland was best for him with how he was being used. He has turned into a pretty solid safety that can impact the game in multiple ways. The Browns were only allowing him to take action on the back end of the defense much of the time, which left a lot to be desired in his play in Cleveland.
